Hi everybody; Marisol here. I’m sick today, so I didn’t prepare a real tutorial. I haven’t posted in a while because I bought a Nintendo DS (yay!) with my tax return, and I’ve been sick. :( I think I have a cold or the flu, but I rebound quickly. Let me update you on a few things, though.

This has been quite the interesting week for Alex and me. Monday, our linguistics class was cancelled, so we went and sold some movies and got a Super Nintendo! Yay! Too bad there was no AV plug.

Finally, today, Alex and I were about to get attacked by some angry guy in a purple Ford Ranger. It was my and Alex’s turn at the stop sign, so it was our turn to go. Well, Mr. Purple Truck decided to pull out in front of us as we were going through the stop sign. He honked at us even though it wasn’t his turn to go; Alex honked at him. The guy in the purple truck pulled over, swung his door open, and was rushing up to our car ready to fight! Alex drove off and we thought the guy was gunna follow us to fight! People… sheesh! Crazy, crazy people.

Okay, so our week wasn’t that eventful. Oh well. Good stuff, anyway. Tala should tell you guys about HER week!

Okay, so someone recently asked me about shading techniques and how to not make drawings seem so sketchy. Well, I have some tips to offer. Ready to begin? Awesome! Click to read more …

Hi! Sorry for the slow down in posting. School’s gotten kinda busy and Marisol and I are working hard to build a better website. We want to make it easier for users to communicate and we also noticed that the website is kinda hard to navigate. We want to everything categorized well so that people who want to learn more about fine art won’t get stuck sifting through tutorials on how to draw. But we haven’t forgotten about you! We’ve recently received a lot of feedback on the types of posts that our viewers would like to see more of. So far, we’ve heard that users want more:

  • Anatomy tutorials
  • Perspective tutorials
  • Realistic art
  • Painting
  • Art analysis
  • Commentary
  • Fairies

Hello everyone! How are you all today? I’m in an allergy-induced cloud right now and it sucks. Certain ways I move, it feels like my head is about to explode! C’est la vie! I don’t like it one bit.

I was searching through my Sheezy Art page recently and I came across a lot of my old poetry I wrote. Wow, I used to have a lot of darkness burning within me. Much of poetry was depressing! It’s funny, because generally, I’m not a depressed person anymore. So why the difference? My first two years of college I was dealing with a stalker ex-boyfriend who was rather abusive when I dated him. I made a lot of mistakes with this man that I am now smart enough to avoid, but I have a lot of regrets because of things I did to save myself from his fist. I had a lot of angst and depression because of all of it, but, because of it, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. A lot of my humor stems from my tragedies I faced in life, as well as all the craziness that ensues around me. It just amazes me where people’s strength comes from and I’m proud of everyone who can muster strength to surive anything.

As I mentioned in previous posts, writing helped me get through a lot of stress and darkness. Like the aforementioned, a lot of my writing had a darkened tone to it, but I did have some humorous poetry and stories mixed in. So, today, I would like to share with you some of my writing from the past. Here goes!

Love Always,

Mari

Hi everyone. Mari here and I’m very sleepy! It’s 2:17am in my neck of the woods and I’m ready to collapse. Before I go to bed, I thought I would update you guys on some things I’m working on.

UPCOMING TUTORIALS:

I just finished the drawings for the cel shading tutorial. Learning cell shading is really important, especially when learning how to draw with limited colors. Look for that to be posted within the next week.

I did a tutorial on angles in photography. That will be coming up soon.

Finally, I have some origami videos that I plan on posting, once I have my videos updated on Youtube (on Youtube, I am Kit Aisuru).

UPCOMING ART GALLERY ADDITIONS:

I am currently working on my drawing for the song “Vanity.” If you’ve yet to listen to the song, please visit this blog post to hear the song. So far, here’s what I have so far.

It’s a bit of a mess right now, but I promise, it will be cleaned up. So far, I’m happy with it. Thank you Cafir for the reference image. There’s a lot of changes and a lot more to be made. Wish me luck! This is a HUGE project I’m working on, and I want it to be great!

There are my updates. See you all again soon!

Mari

Digital art is art created using a computer. Back when I was around 7 or so, I remember first learning how to draw using Microsoft Paint. The free program takes forever to draw anything and is extremely limited with its features. In contrast, programs like Photoshop CS4 can create nearly perfect lines, blend together pixels realistically, fade several images together and distort an image in thousands of different ways. However, programs like Photoshop CS4 come at a price that almost reaches four digits. You can also use less expensive programs like Corel Paint and Photoshop Elements, which are just as useful but lack many of the nice features found in Photoshop CS4. But luckily, some really nice programmers have taken it upon themselves to create free versions of the expensive Photoshop programs. Both these programs I used for years before I finally broke down and bought Photoshop. Also, these programs are 100% spyware free (as long as you download them from the links I provide).

Good afternoon everyone! How are you today? I’m a little chilly. The other day, it was 75 degrees and wonderful outside, so I spent much of my time out on my deck. Today, it’s sunny and 39 degrees and very cold! Normally, 39 degrees isn’t bad, but since it was 75 the other day, it feels much colder than need be. I hate it! Where’s the warm? Of course, the temperatures are suppose to be in the 60s and 70s next week when I go back to class. My campus annoys the heck out of me simply because we ALWAYS have spring break in winter. Why? To torment us poor souls who can’t fly to warmer locations due to lacking money. Nyah! I want to go to Disney World!

So, for the past few months (since December), I’ve had a picture working on my featuring Kitana and Ikura and their love, yet, I can’t seem to figure out how to draw it. The picture is to be based on Yuki Kajiura’s song “Vanity,” a song I’m totally in love with!

My idea for this image was to place Kit and Ikura in water, floating next to each a la Yuna and Tidus from Final Fantasy X. However, I can’t seem to execute this idea as well as I like and my drawing looks like boogers on stick–ew! Click to read more …

Good morning all! How is everyone today? Me, I’m pretty good. I took some pictures today and worked on dying my hair pink. The streaks I wanted to be pink turned blonde. My hands, however, are very pink. :( I can’t wash the dye off, which makes me grrr! It sucks.

So I got a request from an acquintance from the SoapNet forum for a tutorial on how to draw a Disney-like fairy. Luckily, I did one last summer for E-How. So today, for LaVerne, I will post my fairy tutorial here. This fairy is drawn in nine steps and is fairly easy to do. So without further delay, here’s the Disney fairy! Click to read more …

Hi guys! Marisol here! For those who are regulars at Sketching House, don’t be alarmed by this post. The image below is a picture request that I did for my friends at Soap Net, especially Peep. I hope you enjoy! I will explain later. Right now, bed time!

Goodnight!

Tala here with news about things going on in this side of the world. I’ve been working long boring and hard hours to try and make ends meet, but it’s getting extremely hard to do just that I’ve found. I’m barely making the payments for school, and unfortunately, I think this month’s payment I may be short some money. You see, my job screwed me over in my hours, so therefore they didn’t give me as much as I’d hope, so I might be squeezing my wallet a bit here. I cannot wait till I get a better job doing what I love to do, draw, illustrate, make designs and people happy.

Lately, I’ve been very overworked, with school (even though I love it) and work and now, my mom bought me a car which, I have to pay the whole thing back. You see, no one asked me if I wanted it, they just picked one and said “Here, this is yours, it’s $1500 and with all the other things you’ll need it will come close to $2000! Yes, because I can totally afford that right now right?! Not only that, my doggy had to get his rabies shot, check for heartworms, his distemper and product for his ears. That’s $100 I’ve got to fork up as well now. BAH, well, he’s my responsibility, but I just wish I could get a helping hand from my parents.

Since that doesn’t seem to be working, I’m going to try and gather up commisions for artwork and the like, try and get my name out there and do something with my talents. Oh! But on to the new surprises! I thought about doing a fun little web comic, though this will have some more story line and be more like an actual manga. I’ve already been working on all the details, with a few previews too! Don’t ask why or how, but much of the idea was taken from my own expieriences playing World of Warcraft. XD I’m such a nerd! Sub-subtitle: And other stuff…

I’m back with part two of my assorted brushes guide for Photoshoppers. Why? Because picking the right brush is essential when learning how to draw with a tablet or a mouse. If you’re short on time, go ahead and skip to the calligraphy and Paint.net sections because the rest of the assorted brushes aren’t that good. Just make sure to check out brushes 14, 15, 18 and 20.
